Built in 1889, the Central Railroad of New Jersey (CRRNJ) Terminal stands as the cornerstone of Liberty State Park. It is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places for its unique architecture and rich history.
In its heyday, the CRRNJ Terminal was part of the largest railroad complex operating out of the New York Harbor region, transporting tens of thousands of daily commuters to Manhattan via ferry as well as welcoming new immigrants from Ellis Island. In 1967, the CRRNJ declared bankruptcy and ceased all train service from the terminal. Today, the terminal stands as an historical landmark and now serves as a gateway for visitors to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
